When I started teaching I used a small cassette player for listening activities. It was no wonder students struggled to understand what was going on. These days i can use an MP3 player, an ebook or iTools. Listening has been at the vanguard of the shift to technology, but I am still not sure students really enjoy listening lesson? In this session we will look at how we can make little changes to listening lessons to refl ect the new technologies at our fi ngertips and help to build students‘ confidence.

What‘s in a Word?

Whenever a new dictionary is released there is always interest in what words have been added and which have been omitted. So how does a word become a word? In this talk we will look at how new words are formed, how they become popular and how they become to be featured in new dictionaries such as the Oxford Advanced Learner‘s Dictionary 9th Edition.
